Adam Scott is in talks to reunite with his Bachelorette writer-director Leslye Headland for Headland’s upcoming comedy, Sleeping With Other People.
Alison Brie is also in talks to play the female lead in the film, THR has confirmed, after Kirsten Dunst, who was originally attached to star, had to drop out.
It was announced in September that Dunst and Jason Sudeikis were set to star in Headland’s film about a womanizer (Sudeikis) who befriends a serial cheater and the two ultimately develop a romantic attraction to each other. Headland wrote the screenplay and is set to direct.
Dunst, who previously starred in Headland’s VOD hit Bachelorette, had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict.
But Headland noted that neither Brie nor Scott’s deal is done yet.
“The only person that’s a definite, in that he’s been announced and is onboard, is Jason [Sudeikis],” she said.
The former assistant to Harvey Weinstein said that she’s aware from her years working for the mogul that things could still fall apart.
“Films are always like, it may not happen, we’ll see,” she said. “Even going into the premiere of Bachelorette, I was like, ‘It still may not happen’…I don’t know if it’s just being an assistant and having seen how the sausage is made where you just sort of come at everything with this feeling of…’It’s not set in stone, kids.’ I’ve seen shit fall apart over less.”
Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez Productions, which also produced Bachelorette, is producing Sleeping With Other People. Gary Sanchez is working with IM Global, the international sales, production and financing company.
Ferrell, McKay and the company’s Jessica Elbaum will produce the film.
