The pop singer took to Instagram to give fans an update on her condition since she was hospitalized for an apparent overdose last month.

A little more than a week after she was hospitalized for an apparent overdose, Demi Lovato has broken her silence, posting an update to fans on her Instagram account.

“I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction. What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet,” the singer wrote Sunday.

“I want to thank God for keeping me alive and well,” added Lovato. “To my fans, I am forever grateful for all of your love and support throughout this past week and beyond. Your positive thoughts and prayers have helped me navigate through this difficult time.”

She vowed to continue fighting and thanked those who helped her while she was at Cedars-Sinai.

“I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery,” Lovato added. “The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side.”

While Lovato’s team has not revealed what exactly caused her hospitalization, a statement from the singer’s rep released a few hours after she was hospitalized said that the pop star was “awake and with her family.”

“Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support,” the statement read. “Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now.”

Los Angeles police previously responded to a call for a female victim of a possible overdose on the same block where Lovato lives.

Lovato, who first went to rehab at the age of 18 in 2010, has indeed been open about her struggles with addiction, speaking about it in interviews and her YouTube documentary Simply Complicated and even singing about withdrawals and relapsing on her most recent single, “Sober.”

“Momma, I’m so sorry, I’m not sober anymore/ And daddy, please forgive me for the drinks spilled on the floor,” she sings. “To the ones who never left me/ We’ve been down this road before/ I’m so sorry, I’m not sober anymore.”

Numerous stars, including Lady Gaga and Ellen DeGeneres, quickly offered their support for Lovato and urged the public to be respectful as she recovers.

In the wake of Lovato’s hospitalization, two concerts and a reality-show appearance have been scrapped.
