It’s Official: TBS’ ‘Ground Floor’ Canceled

The workplace comedy from executive producer Bill Lawrence has been canceled after two seasons on the Turner-owned network, Hollywood Insight has learned. The comedy’s Feb. 10 season finale doubled as its series finale.
The decision comes nearly two weeks after TBS granted its cast options to explore pilots in second position to the comedy. Star Skylar Austin, who has the sequel to Pitch Perfect due later this year, has been drawing several offers this season.

The news comes as TNT/TBS topper Kevin Reilly has been looking for edgier fare in a bid to break through the increasingly competitive scripted landscape. Ground Floor’s demise leaves the comedy-themed network with only American Dad — which moved to TBS from Fox this season — as its longest-running comedy. The animated entry was renewed for a 12th season — its second at TBS — earlier this year. The rest of TBS’ comedy slate includes rookies Tribeca, Your Family or Mine and Buzzy’s.

With the cancellation, Lawrence will go from having two shows at TBS to zero after his Cougar Town — which landed at the network after its ABC run fizzled — concludes its final run this season. The prolific producer, meanwhile, also has NBC sophomore comedy Undateable as well as CBS pilots Rush Hour and its Tommy Johnagin comedy in contention. Last year at this time, Lawrence had four shows on the air: Ground Floor, Undateable, Fox’s Surviving Jack and Cougar Town.

Ground Floor joins Men at Work and Sullivan & Son as recent cancellations at TBS.
