Vitalii Sediuk was also fined $200 and sentenced to 20 days of community labor and 36 months of summary probation.
The red-carpet prankster who allegedly attacked Brad Pitt at Wednesday night’s Maleficent premiere is no longer welcome at Hollywood events.
Appearing in an East Los Angeles courthouse for his first hearing on the matter since he was arrested Wednesday night, Vitalii Sediuk was told he must stay 500 yards away from all award shows, entertainment events and red carpets.
The former journalist, who was fired from his job at a Ukrainian TV channel after he crawled under America Ferrera’s dress at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this month, pled no contest to one count each of battery and disturbing the peace.
Sediuk, who appeared before Judge Yvette Verastegui was also sentenced to a $200 fine, 20 days of community labor and 36 months of summary probation. The summary probation distinction is more severe than the diversion status Sediuk previously had and violated.
He’s also barred from owning dangerous weapons or harassing anyone and must enroll in weekly psychiatric counseling, once a week for 52 weeks, and return to court to prove he has enrolled in psychiatric counseling and community labor.
Sediuk, who’d been in jail since he was dragged off the red carpet at the El Capitan Theater Wednesday night, was wearing the same clothes he sported that night and had his hands handcuffed behind his back.
After paying the court fees, Sediuk was released from custody, but the temporary restraining order keeping him away from Pitt and Angelina Jolie is still in effect. He’s also banned from the Hollywood and Highland area where the Maleficent premiere occurred.
Sediuk’s lawyer, Anthony Willoughby, clarified what happened Wednesday night, saying that the incident was misreported and that his client tried to hug Pitt around the waist and got tackled by security. Pitt’s sunglasses subsequently fell off, but Sediuk was not trying to hit him, Willoughby said.
“He told me he wasn’t planning on pulling a prank [at the premiere,] but then he ‘saw Brad Pitt and decided to make Angelina Jolie jealous,’ ” Willoughby said.
Willoughby, who also represented Sediuk when he faced — and avoided — a possible jail term when Sediuk crashed the 2013 Grammys swore his client’s pranking days are behind him and said that the former journalist likely will not be deported as long as he doesn’t commit any violent acts.
Willoughby added that although Sediuk had lost his job at Ukrainian TV network 1+1, he remains on good terms with his former employer, explaining that the company let him go because it wants to retain its credentials.
Sediuk was driven out of the jail at a little after 4 p.m. by Willoughby, whose black Porsche Panamera was swarmed by a dozen cameramen and reporters. The car slowed to a crawl then drove off without Sediuk making a statement. The destination was likely the Hollywood jail where he spent the previous three nights and where his personal belongings are being held.
