Lip Sync — from executive producers Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Merchant and John Krasinski — bowed to 2.2 million same-day viewers, making it the Viacom-owned cable network’s biggest unscripted launch.
Through four episodes, the celebrity lip sync series ranks as the most-watched original series in Spike history. It’s averaging 3 million total viewers and is the top-rated series in its time slot among the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic. In addition, the series is the most-watched of any kind in network history among women in all demos and the highest-rated among adults 18-49.
The series is a hit online as well, with more than 107 million video streams in three weeks. Anne Hathaway’s “Wrecking Ball” performance leads the pack with 14 million views.
Inspired by the popular segment from Fallon’s Tonight Show, NBC famously passed on the pitch from producers more than a year ago.
Hosted by LL Cool J, the show was picked up straight to series and given an additional 10-episode order. It hails from hails from Fallon’s Eight Million Plus Productions, Krasinski, Merchant, Rick Schwartz of Eight Million Plus, Jay Peterson of Matador and Casey Patterson, exec vp talent development and production at Viacom Entertainment Group. Emmy-winning Beth McCarthy-Miller (Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock, The Sound of Music Live, Modern Family) directs.
