CTC Media, a leading Russian independent broadcaster, has launched an online video service, offering, in addition to its own titles, films from the Paramount library.

“We are offering our viewers a totally free library of legitimate movies, which is an absolutely unique offer in the market,” Yuliana Slashcheva, general director of CTC Media, said in a press release. “There are no other online video services like that in Russia.”

According to Slashcheva, the launch of the online video service comes as part of the broadcaster’s strategy to turn into a provider of content available in all environments and on all platforms.

The ad-sponsored model is used to monetize the video service, which operates on the broadcaster’s web sites ctc.ru, domashniy.ru, peretz.ru and videomore.ru.

“We made the content available to users for free because this consumption model is currently the most common one for mass consumers in Russia,” said Alexei Pivovarov, head of the transmedia products department at CTC Media. “However, in the near future, we plan to offer our viewers premium consumption models, as well.”

Among the titles that are already available are Transformers, Mission: Impossible and Cowboys & Aliens.

By the end of 2016, a total of 120 movies from the Paramount library are to be available for viewers of the CTC Media video service, the broadcaster said.
